The mat is long, thick, and not slippery. It also doesn't have that chemical-ly smell that a lot of new workout mats do. However, the DVD is a joke. It's a mini-DVD, so I had to play it in my computer, and the workout was so insubstantial, that I just threw it out afterwards. Also, the DVD is taped inside of the cardboard packaging so it's easy to miss -- I almost threw out the DVD with the packaging.

Conclusion: Buy the mat because it's a great mat, and don't base your decision on the useless DVD.

I thinking of buying this but how thick is it. Is it 2 x 1/8 or 1/4 in. thick?

The product says this mat is thick. Not so. I got this hoping for some relief from my hard wood floors when I do my floor exercises. I layed the mat down and I could still feel the hard wood floor! My husband tried it too and thought the same thing. Not good when you lay on the mat and feel your spine and hip bone touch the hard floor still ! This is my first time trying an exercise mat out. I am going to order another exercise mat from a differant brand. I am hoping there not all the same. This mat also smells! I had to put it outside for 24 hours to fade the smell. In the mean time I will be looking for a thick mat. Hope this helps someone.

Cleaning method:
You can clean your cute yoga mat once a week or whenever it is necessary. Do not use a washing machine or dryer.
Method 1:
Please wipe the mat with cloth in suds or laundry powder solution...Then rinse with water and wipe it off from mat with towel or cloth.
Method 2:
Please soak yoga mat in warm water, with some vinegar for 30 min. (lay out the whole mat in bath tub with warm water, the water must cover the mat and put some 200ml white vinegar with it)...Then wipe the water off from mat with towel or cloth.

As a beginner to yoga, I needed to find my own mat I could start taking to class. After much research I chose this one. When I received it I washed it in a mild soapy solution and left it unrolled for a day. The first couple times of use the mat seemed a little slippery, but this has gone away. I love the thickness of the mat. I spray it with a lavender solution after every use. It is holding up well after 30+ hours of use and hope it continues to do so. When I'm done using it, I can recycle it. Thanks Hugger Mugger.

I purchased this mat less than a month ago and when I went to unroll it the 3rd time for class the ribbing on the mat had disappeared on the upper portion of the mat where my hands would be placed! I didn't do anything unusual to cause the morphing. I am in the process of returning it.

I love this mat. Still sticky, and in great shape after 3 years. Bonus: no nasty synthetic smells.

I do take good care of it:
It never gets put away damp.
I don't use it outdoors.
I don't leave it in a locker or unbreathable bag.

These are biodegradable mats, so you should treat them with a bit of common sense to ensure that they last (I think 3 years and going strong is pretty good!)

Customer Review

I've been using this mat for 5 months now. This is what I have found.
PROS:

-Very Sticky: traction is only a problem when absolutely drenched in sweat
-Lays Very flat: it only rolls off the floor a tiny amount when laid flat
-Excellent cushioning: I have found it adequate for nearly everything, surprising for a 3/16 mat
-Biodegradable: made of natural rubber

CONS:

-Heavy: not the heaviest mat out there by far, but it could be lighter
-Stretchy: you can push little hills up with you hands and feet allowing your hands and feet to move a little. I haven't found this to be a big problem, but it could be improved.
-Noticeable smell: real rubber = real rubber smell
-Dirty: the mat has a tendency to absorb sweat and collect small skin & dust particles. Cheap, plastic mats seem to be better in this regard.

Neutral but worthwhile points:

-Price: the main competitor to this mat is the Manduka BlackMatPRO 71", which ranges from and up.
-Be sure to buy an extra large mat bag or strap for this mat, it is a bit unwieldy without it.
-YogaAccessories (TM) Black OM Cotton Yoga Mat Bag This has worked well for me, but the mat is so sticky that sliding it into the bag can be difficult; a strap might be a better choice.

I purchased this mat after it was recommended by a oouple of people from my yoga class. I had a problem with my previous mat slipping all over and my hands slipping. I have no problem with this mat. It was a very good investment.
There was a pretty strong odor when I first received it, but after airing it out, it is fine.

Manduka now offers a "hot yoga towel" in addition to this "standard" version, but Amazon doesn't seem to carry it yet. It is more plush, and if you sweat buckets, I highly recommend it. Many absorbent yoga towels I've tried don't give quite enough, but the new one available on their website does.

I was looking for a bag that was durable, roomy and not festooned with artwork. This bag exceeds my expectations. It's very comfortable to carry on the shoulder. It has several generously sized pockets for carrying your essentials. Best of all, it comes in black, which is nice and versatile. On the packaging it indicates the other color choices are lavender and light blue. I am in the process of upgrading my "starter mat" to a nice thick Jade mat, so I have not actually put a large mat in it yet, but I feel certain there is enough room in this bag. My thin "sticky" mat really rattles around in there with so much room left over.

AURORAE YOGI TIPS

1) Wash your mat down with a soft brush and a tablespoon of dishwashing liquid or detergent mixed with warm water then rinse off. I usually do this in the shower if I can't do it outside and hang over my shower rod to dry. Repeat if necessary.

2) Hang dry outside if possible. DO NOT PUT IN DRYER.

3) Another tip from a yogi was to mix white vinegar and warm water, about a 4 to 1 ratio and wipe your mat down with a sponge then let dry.

4) To keep your mat fresh and clean mix fresh lemon with water in a spray bottle. You can use this to naturally clean your mat while also giving it a fresh natural scent. Do as needed after use.

5) Wash your hands with soap and water before class to reduce any natural oils in your hands.

6) Do not use creams or oils on your hands or feet before your practice.

7) Always keep a cotton towel* (available by Aurorae) near you to wipe away any perspiration.

8) If necessary use an Aurorae Yoga Rosin Bag to absorb any perspiration and increase gripping power.

I signed up for my first Pilates class and used the mat provided by the class on the first day. After realizing that it was covered with other people's perspiration and plenty of floor dust, I decided I would like to order my own mat. I bought this mat based on the great reviews it received and I have to say that it meets all of my expectations: thick, odor-free, and non-slip. I have also used it for a PiYo class and for daily stretching and strengthing excercises. I washed it as recommended after receiving it and hung it up to dry. I have a front load washer so it washed up very nicely...not sure how it works in a top load machine, but none of the reviews I read mentioned any problems. I bought the mat in the Solar color and it was a little more muted in color than what shows on the product page, but I still like the color.

while this is a nice yoga/pilates mat, i don't suggest it for bikram yoga as the heat seems to be causing it to fall apart, so please note it's only good for regular pilates/yoga

This towel is a must for hot yoga. If you are practicing with only a regular yoga mat, you need to buy this. I loved hot yoga but hated the slippery mat and coming home trying to clean it each and every time. This towel may seem a little "pricey" but well worth the investment. It works perfectly over your regular yoga mat to prevent slipping and sliding out of poses. Wondered myself if it really would stay in place, but it does. What I love most is, after class I just throw it in the washing machine and I am done. This pumpkin orange color is just the right shade of orange (not too bright). I would not be without one of these towels now for yoga. I do agree with another reviewer, that I wish they made a smaller version without the "grips" on the back, just to use as a regular towel. Great product!

I love this mat towel. It is the only one of it's kind (that I've found) and whoever came up w/ it is a genius. I bought it about a year ago and attend classes 2-3 times a week. Needless to say, it's been through a lot of abuse and washings (I air dry b/c it's "greener" and b/c the tag said it might stain the inside of the dryer) and it still looks & works great. It's very helpful in giving you a little bit more stability from slipping/sliding on your mat (we live in a very warm climate, so perspiration is an issue). I've found I can try more intense poses with more confidence, and less slipping.

I had bought a yoga mat when I started doing Pilates, mistakenly thinking they were the same thing. Once I realized the difference I ordered this mat (I've been using the Stott Pilates DVD's and absolutely love them!) The mat is nice and thick, there's more cushion for the spine than the flatter yoga mat and I'm not at all sore after the workout.

The bands are nice and serve there purpose. I however do not like the connection between the handle and the band. It is uncomfortable and bothers my skin during exercise. I find I have to constantly readjust my hands on the handles so they aren't so uncomfortable and get chafed.

I bought these bands for my fiance so she could use them with her Tae Bo workouts. She tried them out today and on the very first pull of the band, the foot strap broke and it snapped in her face. Now that I've been able to look at the bands in person, I can tell that these are very cheaply made. Do not purchase! To make things worse, I checked the materials with the band packaging and it specifically states, "sold without warranties or guarantees of any kind". I'd give them 0 stars if I could.

I love the natural hemp look and the fact that it has adjustable velcro straps. It fits my Jade Harmony 3/8" mat easily and I think it could probably fit a larger one if necessary. Be aware that the hemp strap is a little scratchy and might irritate sensitive skin. I think it could also double as a strap to use for certain stretches although I haven't tried that yet.
